LaGuardia is stupid
Getting from LaGuardia to home is going to take longer than my flight from Detroit. Dumb as hell BQE traffic. Why isn’t there a train like everywhere else in town?

Build update #3; Blasting.
We dug most of the foundation hole, and were finishing up the walkout basement frost wall trench when we hit ledge.  I had to leave town for a very important wedding, and I had to leave the excavator to coordinate the blasting and bring the concrete guys in to poor the footings and walls.  I didn’t want to leave and kept bringing up things for him to remember.  I could tell he was thinking,...

Memorial Day 2000: As Jen put it this is sort of a Heavy Metal Parking Lot for turn of the century Michigan. I think we should be running ads of this video instead of those Pure Michigan spots. More information about this vacation spot available here.

Breaking Ground.
I’ve been living outside for 10 days, and other than the infrequency of showers, I’m an extremely happy man.  Last night I made a fire in the grill using cherry wood, and grilled a discount $5 strip steak and a halved vidalia onion, both with salt and pepper.  Total meal cost; $6.  Total cook time; 6 minutes.  Probably took me 6 minutes to eat everything too.  It was insanely...

Tires need rubber, a story.
I have a 1994 Saab with 138,000 miles on it and balding tires, total worth about $600.  It sat in storage for 9 months and when I return it has a dead battery (forgot to disconnect it) and 3 flat tires.  I have it towed to Ted’s, a trusted mechanic in town, to get a new battery and the cheapest tires he could find on it.  It also needs to be inspected.  His daughter calls, who works the...

Vimeo: The Stronger the Social Network the Better... →
vimeobuzz: “Well, the Vimeo community has really great and generous feedback. It’s a hub for a lot of creative people both professional and amateur and is somehow more serious then let’s say, YouTube. So when people see something they like they often comment, mostly positively and constructively as they create video as well and know about the medium. Vimeo is always evolving where as YouTube...

At least we have a new Idol
D: atleast we have a new Idol
Q: oh yeah?
is it Oprah?
D: oprah sang "too drunk to fuck" to 4 hundred million households last night and was crowned idol
Q: then she pulled a string of colored handkerchiefs out of her anus and tied them around simon's head
D: which made the front page of the times and was live-blogged by david carr
one can see, if one looks closely that the aforementioned anus is a socially-networked MMPG, you know, for the kids
Q: and now handerchiefs are the best-selling item on Amazon.com
D: and they're on oprah's "favorite things" list
Q: ahh
in a perfect world
D: is this not a perfect world?
Q: it may very well be the perfectest yet
D: i can tell because i can see the kitties and bunnies about

First payment.
First check from the bank is going out to the timber framer.  I’ll officially be in debt for the first time in my life, not bad for 33.  Living debt free has been nice. It’s gonna be well worth it.
