Build update #3; Blasting.
We dug most of the foundation hole, and were finishing up the walkout basement frost wall trench when we hit ledge. I had to leave town for a very important wedding, and I had to leave the excavator to coordinate the blasting and bring the concrete guys in to poor the footings and walls. I didn’t want to leave and kept bringing up things for him to remember. I could tell he was thinking, “Just leave, I got this.” I left him a note w/ an extra drawing of the concrete plans in his mailbox on the way out. The note had a few instructions 1) to set aside the cherry stump that used to be the benchmark for the site survey (I’m going to make a piece of furniture from it), 2) to take a large soft maple on the east side (blocking too much morning light and ruining the view), 3) to set aside one boulder he pulled out (to use for a step later), and 4) to please treat this project as if it were his own house.
He called this morning while I was eating donuts at a New Jersey rest stop. Everything is under control, on budget, and on schedule. I definitely hired the right guy. Feels good. Now I can not worry about it and enjoy myself.
