Three things any mouth-breathing imbecile should know, but I didn’t
So I’ve been working for a local NYC startup most of this year. I’ll link it up here in a couple weeks when everything is running smoothly, which it definitely isn’t at this point. I’m the director of technology, and the company is basically a web site plus a physical audio/video location. So I’m director of everything. I’m not boasting…if you saw what I did you would not envy me.
Anyway, this has presented a lot of challenges, and I’ve stumbled a few times along the way.
Here are three things I’ve learned this year, some of them I re-learned, because humans have a hard time learning from the mistakes of others:
1. Do it right the first time, even if it costs more money. You get what you pay for.
2. Hire local. < If I could make that period bigger, I would.
3. Test for at least a month after everything is ready to go before launch. This goes for brick & mortar stuff and web sites.
